Open to software engineering roles and selective freelance work

Christian Teo · MCS @ UIUC · Software Engineer

I build with calm execution and sharp product judgment.

I’m a software engineer who moves comfortably between backend systems, polished interfaces, and applied AI. I like hard problems with real users: resume intelligence, data-heavy workflows, electrophysiology analytics, and algorithmic tools that need both technical rigor and product taste.

About

Product-minded engineer with systems-level discipline.

I'm Christian Teo, an MCS student at UIUC and software engineer focused on building useful, reliable software. I enjoy taking ambiguous ideas from zero to execution, especially where product decisions, backend logic, and user experience all matter equally.

Selected work

Projects that show how I think, ship, and refine.

The strongest work here spans applied AI, full-stack product delivery, and algorithmic experimentation. Each project is included because it demonstrates a specific engineering muscle, not just because it exists.

Snapshot

Current mix: production-style web builds, AI-assisted tooling, and systems work shaped by performance and real user workflows.

Resume Screener MVP (Testing) preview screenshot showing the Resume Screener MVP (Testing) interface

Resume Screener MVP (Testing)

Built an AI-assisted screening workflow that compares resumes against job descriptions, then explains the score with transparent keyword, skills, and experience signals instead of opaque ranking.

Shows how I approach applied AI: useful automation, explainability, and a clean operator experience.

Hackathon Voting Platform preview screenshot showing the Hackathon Voting Platform interface

Hackathon Voting Platform

Built a full-stack hackathon platform with project submission, blind pairwise voting, real-time Elo leaderboard, AI judging, and event analytics dashboard.

Demonstrates full-stack product thinking: from data modeling and voting logic to AI features and a polished operator experience.

skill-dep-fixer preview screenshot showing the skill-dep-fixer interface

skill-dep-fixer

Built a dependency doctor for OpenClaw skills that scans required toolchains, flags missing system/runtime deps, and applies targeted fixes to unblock agent workflows quickly.

Shows practical developer-experience engineering: fast diagnosis, deterministic remediation, and safer automation ergonomics.

PythonCLIAutomation
calctl preview screenshot showing the calctl interface

calctl

Shipped a macOS calendar CLI for creating, listing, editing, and deleting events, including recurring-event handling for reliable personal scheduling automation.

Demonstrates systems-level utility work: clean command surface, reliable event operations, and real daily-use tooling.

Personal Portfolio preview screenshot showing the Personal Portfolio interface

Personal Portfolio

Designed and built a polished portfolio in Next.js to package product thinking, technical breadth, and writing into a fast-loading personal brand system that can keep evolving.

This site doubles as a live design and front-end quality signal, not just a project list.

Calorie Tracker preview screenshot showing the Calorie Tracker interface

Calorie Tracker

Shipped a calorie-tracking web app with nutrition lookup, persistent user data, and goal support using PHP, SQL, and the USDA API for a complete end-to-end health workflow.

Strong example of building a full product loop: data model, API integration, and user-facing utility.

Tips Calculator preview screenshot showing the Tips Calculator interface

Tips Calculator

Built a native iOS utility focused on speed and clarity, with bill splitting and per-person calculation flows that keep a common task frictionless on mobile.

A small project, but a useful one for demonstrating native mobile fundamentals and interface discipline.

Improved Binary Search Algorithm preview screenshot showing the Improved Binary Search Algorithm interface

Improved Binary Search Algorithm

Explored a variation on standard binary search with an emphasis on empirical performance and algorithmic tradeoffs across large sorted datasets.

Useful as a signal for fundamentals: experimentation, performance thinking, and communicating technical comparisons clearly.

Trading Algorithm preview screenshot showing the Trading Algorithm interface

Trading Algorithm

Implemented an automated trading system in MetaTrader 5 combining triple EMA crossover logic with RSI confirmation to create rules-based entries and exits.

Reflects my interest in systematic thinking, signal design, and the discipline required for quantitative decision-making.
